WHY LEARN IN CALIFORNIA

All along the golden coast there are world-class surf spots perfect for surfers of all ability levels. From big wave chargers to those paddling out for their first time, California has something for everyone.

With so much to see and do in, taking a break from the traditional sights to see the state the way the locals do is a great way to spend an afternoon. Southern California's cool water and wide sandy beaches make for the perfect escape from the bustling city of Los Angeles. Whether you're looking to paddle out with the whole family, or come out for a solo session, catching waves in California is the ultimate bucket-list experience.

BEST PLACES TO LEARN IN CALIFORNIA

Southern California has a myriad of different surf breaks ideal for a variety of different abilities. Two of our most popular locations are Venice Beach and Santa Monica Beach. Both of these spots have gentle inside waves, perfect for those just learning, with a heavier outside section that challenges those looking to further hone their skills.

Because California has such a wide variety of different breaks, it's best to work with an instructor to determine which break is best for the current conditions. Our instructors are constantly monitoring swell, wind and tides to ensure the most ideal conditions for their lessons. They also work with their students to choose a location that works best with their time restrictions and accommodations.

ABOUT CALIFORNIA SURF CULTURE

Although surfing originated in the Hawaiian Islands, the world-wide explosion of surf fanatics came from California. After surfing faced its first pop-culture hit, it became a sport that would be forever intertwined with the thought of California culture.

In the 1950s a young girl fell in love with surfing after spending a summer at the beach in Malibu. She told her father (who happened to be a producer) all about her adventures and he made a movie based on these stories, entitled Gidget, that changed the sport of surfing forever. From then, artists like The Beach Boys eternalized this era of surf culture and made it synonymous with Southern California. The rest is well, history.
